Learn to Dance: An Invitation to Discover Something New

There are certain hobbies that become part of the way you live.

You learn to play golf because you enjoy the challenge, the social atmosphere, and having something to look forward to. You take up tennis because you want to stay active while continuing to learn. You travel because discovering something new keeps life interesting.

Dance belongs in that same category.

It is a skill, a social experience, a form of movement, and a lifelong hobby—all wrapped into one.

And now, we’re making it easier than ever to take your first step.

Introducing the Learn to Dance Series at In Motion Ballroom

This upcoming winter season, In Motion Ballroom is introducing an eight-week Learn to Dance Series, created specifically for adults who are new to partner dancing.

Whether you’ve always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity, you’re looking for a new hobby, or you simply want to feel more comfortable on the dance floor at social events, this series is designed to give you a polished and enjoyable introduction to dancing.

No previous experience is required. No partner is necessary.

Just bring your curiosity—and perhaps a pair of comfortable shoes.

Two Dances. Eight Weeks. A New Skill.

The series focuses on two versatile dances that are wonderful starting points for new dancers:

American Rumba

Rumba is elegant, rhythmic, and wonderfully social. It introduces many of the fundamentals that make partner dancing enjoyable—from timing and musicality to connection and movement.

You’ll learn how to move with confidence while developing skills that can carry over into many other styles of dancing.

Disco/Hustle

Then we’ll turn up the energy.

Disco/Hustle is upbeat, playful, and perfect for social occasions. It’s the kind of dance that can come in handy at weddings, parties, cruises, celebrations, and nights out.

Together, these dances offer a balanced introduction to partner dancing: one elegant and expressive, the other energetic and fun.

Designed for the True Beginner

Walking into a dance studio for the first time can feel intimidating.

You may wonder whether you’ll be the only beginner. You may think you have two left feet. Or perhaps you’re worried that everyone else will already know what they’re doing.

We’ve designed this series specifically to eliminate those concerns.

You’ll learn progressively, with instruction that breaks down the fundamentals in a way that is easy to understand and enjoyable to practice.

There is no expectation that you arrive knowing the steps.

That’s what you’re here to learn.

More Than Learning Steps

At In Motion Ballroom, we believe dancing is about much more than memorizing patterns.

It’s about learning how to move with confidence.

It’s about listening to music differently.

It’s about having an activity that challenges your mind while keeping you moving.

It’s about meeting people and enjoying a social experience that feels a little more special than the average fitness class.

And eventually, it’s about walking into a wedding, party, club, cruise, or country club event and thinking:

“I know how to dance.”

You Don’t Need a Partner

One of the most common questions we hear from people interested in learning to dance is, “But I don’t have a partner.”

That’s perfectly fine.

You are welcome to join the series on your own. You’ll have opportunities to practice with other students while learning both the mechanics and the communication that make partner dancing work.

Couples and friends are, of course, welcome to participate together as well.

A New Hobby Can Start With One Step

You don’t need to know where this will take you.

Perhaps you’ll simply enjoy learning something new.

Perhaps you’ll discover that you love dancing and continue into private lessons. Maybe you’ll find yourself dancing at your next vacation, wedding, or special event. Or perhaps you’ll eventually want to perform, compete, or become part of the wonderful social world surrounding ballroom dancing.

There is no right path.

You simply have to take the first step.

Our Learn to Dance Series is an invitation to do exactly that—in an elegant, welcoming environment where you can learn, have fun, and discover a skill you can enjoy for years to come.
