Throughout history, dancing and socializing have always been connected. From the court dances & royal balls to modern day clubs & bars, dance has always played at part in social gatherings. There’s a reason; dance is one of the most adaptable and inclusive ways to share an experience with others!
What if I’m just a beginner?
Dancing is without a doubt an accessible activity; someone sitting in their seat can still bop to a tune, a beginner with only a few lessons under their belt can still hold their own in most situations, and experienced dancers can help others improve & feel more confident while improving their skills! We deeply believe in the value of shared learning to bring people together and forge stronger social bonds. Most people dance simply for the fun of meeting new friends with a common interest!
What if I’m shy?
Have no fear! Dancing can help develop self-confidence and help you get more comfortable in social environments by providing a creative outlet and a topic of conversation. Even the shyest students nearly always fall in love with the simple joy and physicality of dancing after a few lessons! It’s been proven that being more social can help improve self-esteem, lower stress levels, increase sense of purpose, and promote a positive outlook on life, so what are you waiting for?
What if I’m new to the area and don’t know anyone?
Given that people nowadays are prone to spend more time on their phones rather than interact with real people, most individuals are looking for ways to connect with others. Believe it or not, the hard part is finding people! Most dance studios have tremendously friendly people who love dancing and the benefits it provides. We are lucky to have amazing students at our studio. They are extremely friendly, always encouraging, and easy to talk to! Between group classes, chatting after a private lesson, or socializing at one of our parties, dancing is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
What else can I do to feel more confident?
In addition to taking advantage of the various types of classes available, it is helpful to learn from all of our teachers! We have an awesome team here at In Motion Ballroom, and and we strongly believe in team teaching for a multitude of reasons. Every member of our team has different strengths, and we also have different ways of explaining things that may resonate more with one person than another. Learning from more than one instructor also helps develop your lead and/or follow more quickly, which can help you feel more confident in social situations!
